I’m still here.

I really enjoy The Take-Away Shows. You could spend all night watching them and discovering new artists and music. Like this video, The Tallest Man on Earth covering These Days.

My feelings now.

The National performing “Start A War” at the dinner table.

I’ve been trading IMs with the guitarist of Oliver, one of the bands I wrote about for msnbc.com. Cool guy who enjoys all things rock.

He sent me the link to their MySpace page, which you can check out if you want. Here’s part of the description of the band from their site.

The band were formed in chaos, and they played in chaos. In fact, the band are used to dealing all the music-related matters in chaos.

Perhaps they should’ve called their band Chaos Theory?

My relatives know I don’t speak mandarin, so they’ve gone out of their way to make me feel more comfortable. Like in Shanghai, where relatives bought Kung Fu Panda and played it in the car while we drove around town.

And in Jixi, a remote city in Northeastern China, my relatives bought a CD for us to listen to while we drove the three hours to Xingkai Lake.

The CD? Mariah Carey’s The Emancipation of Mimi.

It was a little surreal to be listening to “We belong together” somewhere on the back roads of northeast China with four other guys who don’t speak a lick of English. But it was an endearing gesture.

When I was writing my articles for msnbc.com, I would usually put on my headphones and play music. But not on party shuffle. It would just be a few albums — ones that I could listen to over and over and over. Somehow, it kept me focused — not to mention it also blocked out all the white noise of the newsroom. It was just easier to write with music.

Here are the four albums that kept me sane. All highly recommended.

I’ve probably listened to those four albums dozens and dozens of times. I’m still listening to them now.

Another reason why the Arcade Fire are so awesome.
